Egg drop curry recipe | Udaitha muttai kulambu recipe | Poached egg drop curry

Egg drop curry or udaitha muttai kulambu  is tamilnadu style  side dish for chappati or dosa . Break the eggs add it  to curry and allow the eggs to boil for about 5 minutes. Finally add coriander leaves and serve with steamed hot rice or dosa or chappati,

Ingredients for egg drop curry:

Egg – 2
Mustard seeds – few , Star anise- 1, Cinnamon – 1
Onion – 1
Tomato – 1
Green chilli – 2
Ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
Coriander powder – 2 tsp
Cumin seeds powder – 1/2 tsp
Tamarind – 1/2 lemon size
salt and oil

To grind 

3 tbsp of grated coconut + 4 cashew nut

Preparation of egg drop curry

  • Heat oil in the pan , add star anise, cinnamon stick and mustard seeds.
  • Add onion and fry them until golden in colour.
  • Add tomatoes, ginger garlic paste, green chilli, curry leaves one by one and fry them until raw smell goes.
  • Add red chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin seeds powder, salt.
  • Add 3/4 tumbler of water + tamarind water and allow to boil for 15 mins until raw smell of tamarind goes.
  • Add grounded coconut + cashew nut.
  • Add raw eggs to curry and allow the eggs to cook for 5 mins.
  • Finally add coriander leaves and serve the egg drop curry with hot rice or chappati.
